The highest salary in NBA history has arrived!
The Canadian playmaker delivered a historic season — MVP, league’s top scorer, All-Star, All-NBA First Team, Western Conference Finals MVP, and finally, NBA champion and Finals MVP. And now, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been rewarded handsomely.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have locked in their franchise star with a supermax extension through the 2030–31 season, worth a staggering 285 million dollars. That’s over 70 million per year — the highest salary in NBA history. In the final year, he'll be earning 1 million per game.

Since arriving in a blockbuster trade in 2019, this is the second time Shai has extended with OKC. The Thunder wasted no time after their championship run, ensuring their core stays intact. Dillon Jones has left, while Jaylin Williams (center) and AJ Mitchell got new deals. Now it was Shai’s turn — and next up are Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams (guard), who are expected to be extended soon.
Gilgeous-Alexander had a season for the ages, becoming just the fourth player ever to win league MVP, Finals MVP, and lead the NBA in scoring in the same season — joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, and Shaquille O’Neal.

Averaging 32.7 points, 5 rebounds, and 6.4 assists on elite efficiency (51.9% FG, 37.5% 3PT, 89.8% FT), Shai led OKC to 68 wins and a title. He’s now cemented his legacy — both on the court and in the bank.
